Pete Alonso Sends Farewell Message to Mets Fans in IG Video After Orioles Contract

Paul KasabianDec 11, 2025

Pete Alonso sent a farewell message to New York Mets fans after the power-hitting first baseman signed a five-year, $155 million contract in free agency with the Baltimore Orioles.

"New York, thank you. These last few years have shaped me in ways I'll carry for the rest of my life. This city demands your best and I'm proud to look back knowing I gave everything I had into earning the privilege of wearing that jersey.

"I've been blessed with incredible teammates, coaches, trainers, staff, and countless people who helped shape me into the player and man I am today. I'm forever grateful for every person who challenged me, supported me and believed in me along the way.

"Thank you for the passion. Thank you for the love. Even the tough love that comes with playing for New York. When it came time for first pitch, thank you for being electric through it all.

"Thank you for getting rowdy every time I stepped up to the plate and made the building shake when the ball found a seat over the wall. Your energy fueled me more than you'll ever know. You believed in me, and you made me better."

With love,

Polar Bear

The Mets selected Alonso with a second-round pick in the 2016 MLB draft. He got the call-up to the bigs in 2019 and played seven MLB seasons in town, making five All-Star Games and smacking 264 home runs while posting an .857 OPS.

In 2019, Alonso also hit an MLB rookie record 53 home runs, a figure that also led the major leagues. He easily won the National League Rookie of the Year award as well.

He knocked in 118 or more runners in four of his seven MLB campaigns, including an MLB-high 131 in 2022 to help guide New York to 101 wins, the team's second-highest victory total in franchise history.

Alonso has made the All-Star Game in each of his last four seasons, and he just added his first Silver Slugger award too in 2025.

In addition, Alonso has been a mainstay in the lineup, missing just 18 games over seven seasons.

Alonso was a beloved member of the franchise and authored one of the Mets' most iconic moments in 2024, when he belted a go-ahead three-run home run off then Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams in a do-or-die Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series. The Mets went on to win 4-2 to advance to the NL Division Series.

The Polar Bear's time in New York is over, but he was a fantastic core member of this team. He will certainly be difficult to replace on a Mets team that also lost closer Edwin Diaz to the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason.
