After initially thinking he had it won, Paul was shocked to see another bid came in at $51,100 to steal the collectible card away from him.
The seller was the anonymous collector known as Kabuto King, who has gained fame for trying to collect every first edition Kabuto card he can find.
Kabuto King autographed the card Paul was trying to win and has pledged to donate the $51,100 from the winning bid to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Per Will Stern of CLLCT.com, the $51,100 price tag is a record for the "previously unheralded TCG card."
Paul is a well-known Pokémon card collector, including acquiring a PSA Grade 10 Pikachu Illustrator card worth $5.3 million in April 2022.
