BS Meter on Rumored WWE Royal Rumble Favorite, Roman Reigns' WrestleMania Pivot, More
The pro wrestling rumor mill apparently didn't get the memo that WWE's WarGames came and went.
While a polarizing PLE event for WWE, WarGames did create more questions than answers, which is what the rumor mill tends to feast on weekly.
Case in point, some of the week's top buzz focuses on the why of the results at the big event. Naturally, others zoom in on the implications, because it sure seems like some of the happenings during the PLE point directly at the main event of next year's WrestleMania.
To help fans keep pace with another buzz-worthy trip to the mill, here's a look at the top items and where fans should rank them on a BS Meter, with 10 being the highest form of unbelievable buzz fans can safely dismiss.
Seth Rollins' impact on WrestleMania
1 of 5
The Rumor
The Seth Rollins injury continues to weigh heavily on the proceedings in WWE. According to Self Made Pro (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), Rollins against Roman Reigns was the original plan for WrestleMania 42.
Reaction
The writeup goes on to mention that Bron Breakker betraying Rollins and leading to a big feud wasn't scheduled to happen until after 'Mania. And considering how much the injury seemed to catch everyone off guard and how quickly things escalated, this seems like a natural line of thinking to follow.
BS Meter: 1
Buy. WWE loves its long-form storytelling with Triple H in charge of creative. It felt like The Vision with Paul Heyman, Rollins and Breakker was only just getting going. They really, really need to revisit Rollins vs. Reigns in a marquee spot one last time, too. Slow-burning Breakker into a main-event star made too much sense. They still can, but the pivot was necessary.
Roman Reigns called huge audible
2 of 5
The Rumor
According to Self Made Pro (h/t Ortman), Reigns is to blame for WWE going with him vs. Cody Rhodes at next year's 'Mania, forcing CM Punk vs. Breaker in the other top matchup. Reigns reportedly didn't want the match against Breakker.
Reaction
Plans change on a dime in WWE literally by the day at times, so there's no reason to doubt the company initially eyeballed Breakker-Reigns as a 'Mania feud. It would, and still could be someday, a fun passing-of-the-torch moment.
BS Meter: 10
No way. Reigns, or any Superstar, really, can't just nix the 'Mania main event plans on a whim. Are they consulted? Yes. At this stage, WWE might not even know what the main event lineup will look like, hence teasing so many different things during the men's WarGames match.
AJ Lee update
3 of 5
The Rumor
AJ Lee has come under the spotlight a bit in recent times for not having that many appearances. But according to Fightful Select (h/t Ortman), there was never an intention of Lee being full-time after her big comeback.
Reaction
This one is on the fans for expecting more. Lee made her big return in a tag match that was a decade in the making at WrestlePalooza alongside CM Punk. Then, the women's WarGames match.
BS Meter: 3
It was fun to dream that Lee would come back and compete for singles titles, no doubt. But not every returning Superstar can or wants to manage that. And some Lee is better than no Lee, given her beloved status in the sport.
More comedian work?
4 of 5
The Rumor
Get ready for more Andrew Schulz. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), fans should "expect to see more" of the comedian in future WWE programming.
Reaction
WWE sure loves its celebrities. At least with somebody like Jelly Roll, he was actually getting in the ring and working matches that were entertaining, right?
BS Meter: 1
An unfortunately, totally believable bit of buzz. If it's not Schultz, it will be some other celebrity. Whether WWE just wants to hunt viral moments or really hopes his appearance will lure in new fans is hard to say. But the ESPN/Netflix era is throwing out the expected stuff, to say the least.
Big plans for Breakker?
5 of 5
The Rumor
WWE is far from done building up Breakker. According to Wrestlevotes Radio (h/t Ortman), internally, he's the favorite to win the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia next year.
Reaction
If the Royal Rumble win and 'Mania main event aren't going to go to a huge name like Roman Reigns to set up major feuds, the next best guess is a fast-riser like Breakker. This means investing a likely title win on him at 'Mania, too, but there's plenty of time to line that all up well.
BS Meter: 1
This is the easiest buy of the week. By far the next big thing in WWE's main-event scene (Dominik Mysterio is the only serious competition), Breakker taking down a rumble win just feels like a matter of time. With Seth Rollins sidelined, his getting a big win and spot like that might make for nice Rollins feud material at a later date, too.
