All the Reasons Why Liv Morgan is WWE's Most Important Star on Road to WrestleMania 42
Liv Morgan returned to WWE Saturday at Survivor Series: WarGames, assisting Dominik Mysterio in his victory over John Cena for the Intercontinental Championship.
Just 48 hours later on Raw, she was the central figure of two segments while also setting up a potential feud in a backstage confrontation.
One of the breakout stars of the Triple H regime, the 31-year-old is poised to play a big role on the road to WrestleMania 42.
For several reasons, one could even argue Morgan will be the most important star entering the build for wrestling's grandest event.
The Dominik Mysterio Effect
1 of 5
The on-screen relationship with Morgan arguably elevated Dominik Mysterio to a whole new level, culminating in the greatest run of his career in 2025 and suggestions he may be the face of WWE's future.
Their chemistry and the manner in which Dirty Dom rubs his championships, and love interest, in fans' faces has both infuriated the audience and endeared him to the WWE Universe.
Reuniting with Morgan should only help him. It could also propel him forward, especially if the reunion is short-lived.
Without Morgan by his side, he captured the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41. While she was sidelined, he saw his connection with fans strengthen and enjoyed unprecedented popularity. The worse he cheated to retain his title, the more the fans loved him, a la Eddie Guerrero.
He proved he did not need Morgan quite as much as some thought, even if he did rely on her to help regain his Intercontinental Championship against John Cena.
Things can go in one way or the other, with Mysterio and Morgan taking that next step to the top of WWE together or separately following a high-profile breakup. Either way, Mysterio's continued ascent in pro wrestling's most prominent promotion includes the former women's world champion.
The Evolution of The Judgment Day
2 of 5
Tension permeated through The Judgment Day in 2025, beginning with clear disagreement between Morgan and Finn Bálor over what is best for the group.
When she was forced to the injured list, the Irishman tried to scheme his way back into power and influence, introducing Roxanne Perez as a potential new love interest for Mysterio, in hopes he would leave Morgan behind.
That did not happen. At least, not yet.
There have been teases and Morgan twice stared down Perez Monday night, once during arrivals and once at the end of the show, before presenting her with one of the tag team titles.
It's clear she is aware of what Bálor was attempting to do and Perez was happy to assist in it. It will inevitably lead to changes within the group. Whether that means The Prince and The Prodigy are kicked to the curb remains to be seen.
Regardless, the best and most consistent faction in WWE over the last two years is poised to evolve at a time when it needs it, and Morgan will be the catalyst for change.
The Future of the Women's Division
3 of 5
There is no denying how large a part Morgan has played in the women's division since her initial push under the Triple H regime in 2022.
She has been one of its centerpieces, a breakout star and a champion since then, and if her booking on Monday's Raw is any indication, that's not going to change.
What might is how important she is to the short- and long-term future of the division.
Her involvement in the show-closing angle immediately enhanced the women's tag team division. As if the star power of Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Bayley, Charlotte Flair, and Alexa Bliss was not enough, Morgan's involvement at the tail end of the broadcast put an exclamation point on it, further reviving an area of the roster that badly needed it.
Beyond that intensifying program is what lies in the future for Morgan. First is the inevitable rivalry with Perez, who will benefit from feuding with a true star. It will take a young performer who has already been the face of NXT and put her in a position to be a top-tier star in the best women's division in wrestling.
In the process, it will also test Raquel Rodriguez's loyalty and potentially set up a program between her and her friend/longtime tag team partner. Early on in her absence, Rodriguez repeatedly mentioned Morgan, keeping her spirit alive within The Judgment Day. That has tailed off of late as she got comfortable with the group and closer to Perez.
Would she eventually betray Morgan in favor of The Prodigy or is that bond too strong for a newer friendship with Perez to break? It is a question to be answered in a layered storyline that should provide viewers with the kind of compelling television WWE has been missing of late.
Legitimizing Stephanie Vaquer's Title Reign
4 of 5
Separate from the other impact Morgan may have across the women's division is what her return means for reigning women's world champion, Stephanie Vaquer.
La Primera defeated Iyo Sky to win the title but has been involved in a somewhat lethargic program with Nikki Bella since that has seen the Hall of Famer return to her heel roots, though a lack of quality creative has doomed the feud to mediocrity.
That could change soon, though.
Among her many on-screen appearances on Raw, Morgan approached Vaquer backstage and issued a not-so-subtle warning that she is back. While there was no outright declaration of intent to challenge for the top prize in the Raw women's division, there did not have to be. It was clear she was informing Vaquer that her days with the gold are numbered.
Such a program, with a star in Morgan who will command the creative attention that has not necessarily been afforded to Vaquer and Bella, will only help to elevate La Primera's title reign.
The breakout star of 2025 has been a champion in both NXT and the main roster but she is not yet on the level of Ripley, Flair, Bliss, Asuka, and Sky. That changes with a career-defining feud with Morgan and her Judgment Day minions, all of whom Vaquer is already familiar with.
Royal Rumble Winner and WrestleMania Challenger
5 of 5
Morgan has accomplished many things in her career, including world title wins and marquee matchups, but she has yet to have that defining WrestleMania moment so many Superstars chase.
Despite her successes, she has never competed in a one-on-one match at The Showcase of the Immortals. Instead, she has been relegated to tag team matches, and while it's a big deal to be on the most important card of the year, someone of her stature is missing that high-profile singles match on her resume.
That should change in 2026.
With the manner in which she was used on Monday's Raw, WWE announced Morgan is going to be a focal point moving forward. She is poised to be a central figure in creative plans and that should net her a long-awaited 'Mania moment, beginning with a women's Royal Rumble victory.
Morgan was a runner-up in the Rumble in both 2023 and 2024. She has come within inches of cashing her ticket to the Granddaddy of Them All and now is the time for her to finally get over that hump.
With any of the aforementioned story threads providing key to her win, she should cross two important items off her career bucket list, making her one of the most important stars in WWE over the next six months.
