Chris Mueller

Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage of WWE NXT on November 18.

It was Title Tuesday with the Gold Rush special, which means we got four title matches featuring some of NXT's best and brightest.

Blake Monroe put her NXT Women's North American Championship on the line against former champion Sol Ruca.

Newly crowned AAA mixed tag champs Chelsea Green and Ethan Page defended their titles against the duo of Thea Hail and Joe Hendry.

After regaining the NXT Tag Team Championships from The Hardy Boyz, DarkState found themselves with a new set of challengers when they faced Je'Von Evans and TNA's Leon Slater.

Lastly, Tatum Paxley gave Jacy Jayne a rematch for the NXT Women's Championship.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on Tuesday's episode of NXT.

Chelsea Green and Ethan Page vs. Joe Hendry and Thea Hail

WWE Archive

Last time in action: Green and Page defeated Mr. Iguana and La Hiedra (AAA, Nov. 15), Hail lost a Battle Royal (NXT, Oct. 7), Hendry lost to Eric Young (TNA, Sept. 27)

The AAA mixed tag title bout kicked off the show, with Hendry and Hail challenging Green and Page for the belts.

The women got the match going with a good back-and-forth exchange before the men tagged in to keep it going. All Ego started to show some frustration when he was unable to get the better of Hendry.

While both of these duos could be considered comedy acts, this was not a comedy match. All four competitors brought a lot of energy and physicality to the ring. It had some funny moments, but the main focus was making this feel competitive.

Hail looked to have the match won with a Kimura on Green, but Page helped break up the hold so his teammate could hit the Unprettier for the win.

Result: Green and Page defeated Hail and Hendry

Grade: B

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Hail and Hendry have already developed into a fun duo.
  • Hail putting Page in a Kimura was pretty funny.
  • Both teams having matching gear was great. Coordinating attire always makes two people feel more like a cohesive tandem.
  • Hail taking so long to get into position made it kind of awkward when Page and Alba Fyre were just standing their waiting for her senton.
  • Blake Monroe vs. Sol Ruca

    NXT

Last time in action: Monroe defeated Zaria (Halloween Havoc), Ruca and Zaria lost to Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss (SD, Oct. 17)

Josh Briggs attacked Tavion Heights while he was giving an interview in the crowd. After the break, we got the women's North American title bout between Monroe and Ruca.

The last time we saw Ruca in action was a month ago before she sustained an injury that would lead to her losing both the NA and Speed titles. This was her chance to regain the belt she never lost.

While they may have physical similarities like their height, hair color and muscular physiques, Monroe and Ruca are about as different as it gets in the ring. The former champion is more of a high-flyer while The Glamour prefers to ground opponents.

This was one of those matches that is hard to put in a nutshell. Most of what they did looked good, but there was something off about how it was paced. It was likely more to do with how it was laid out ahead of time than the talent themselves.

That being said, this was a solid contest that allowed both women to shine at different times. They worked well together to entertain a lively crowd.

Monroe focused heavily on Ruca's injured knee during the second half. When she had the challenger locked in a submission. Zaria ended up throwing in the towel on her behalf to cost her the match.

Zaria tried to tend to her friend, but you could see a look of disappointment plastered across Ruca's face. This could be what finally ends their partnership.

    Result: Monroe defeated Ruca

    Grade: B

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Jordynne Grace was wearing glasses during a backstage segment that were so big that they looked like they might be uncomfortable to wear.
  • Ava announced John Cena will appear next week to pick the Iron Survivor participants.
  • The way Monroe sold an enziguiri was hilarious.
  • Ruca showed some impressive power by spinning Monroe around before planting her on the mat.
  • Ruca's German suplex looked great. Monroe sold it perfectly.
  • DarkState vs. Leon Slater and Je'Von Evans

    3 of 5
    WWE Archive

Last time in action: Evans lost to Gunther (Raw, Nov. 17), Slater and The System defeated First Class (TNA, Nov. 15), DarkState defeated the Hardys (Halloween Havoc)

Ricky Saints and Oba Femi had a face-to-face confrontation in the ring. Trick Williams interrupted them, but he was attacked by Myles Borne with a chair to end the segment.

Up next was the tag title match, with Evans and Slater challenging DarkState. Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin represented their group. As soon as the bell rang, The Young OG and Slater took control with some high-flying offense, but it didn't last long.

Lennox and Griffin had a big power advantage and made sure to use it to control their opponents as much as possible. The high-flyers proved to be hard to handle at times, which helped make this feel competitive right out of the gate.

As usual, the other members of DarkState tried to help any way they could. Evans accidentally hit his own partner with a frog splash while trying to break up a pin, and it led to Griffin getting the pin for his team to retain.

This was a good, high-energy performance, but it felt almost too chaotic at times, which seems weird to say about anything in pro wrestling, but it's true.

Result: DarkState defeated Evans and Slater

    Grade: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Heights and Briggs kept fighting backstage until the latter hit a chokeslam through a table.
  • Evans and Slater are a fun duo. It would be cool if we got to see them together on a regular basis.
  • Slater's dive over the ring post was awesome.

    Tatum Paxley vs. Jacy Jayne

    4 of 5
    NXT

Last time in action: The Culling and Lyra Valkyria defeated Fatal Influence (NXT, Nov. 15)

This week's main event was the NXT women's title bout, with Paxley defending the belt against former champion Jayne.

The first couple of minutes saw them exchange several takedowns and counters. Some looked great, but a few looked sloppier than they should for a main event. They seemed to find their groove eventually, and things smoothed out a bit.

Paxley has grown a lot over the past year and feels closer to being a complete character, but Jayne outclasses almost everyone in NXT. She is great on the mic, in the ring and in every situation WWE has put her in.

In a somewhat surprising outcome, Jayne ended up getting the win to reclaim the NXT title after Izzi Dame took out Paxley with a kick at ringside to officially turn The Culling against her.

    Result: Jayne defeated Paxley

    Grade: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • This may have had the shortest amount of time of the night. It didn't get started until 13 minutes before the end of the show.
  • WWE needs to do something new with Fallon Henley. She is just spinning her wheels in NXT at this point. She is ready for a call-up.
  • The Final Word

    5 of 5
    NXT

This week's Gold Rush special featured four title matches that all delivered some decent entertainment, but the biggest thing from the show was what happened in the main event.

We all knew Dame would turn on Paxley eventually, but seeing it happen so soon in Paxley's reign as the champion was surprising.

Jayne is back on top of the women's division, but where Paxley goes from here remains to be seen.

This was one of those shows that didn't have a match that stood out above the rest, but since all of them were enjoyable on some level, that's not a bad thing.
