Will Pete Carroll Retire After NFL Season Amid Raiders' Struggles? Insider Weighs In
The first year of Pete Carroll's tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders has been rough. The team has started the season just 2-9 and has already fired special teams coordinator Tom McMahon and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
That makes it pretty natural to question whether there will be a second year for Carroll, though don't expect the head coach to call it quits.
According to Albert Breer of SI.com, "For what it's worth, even with Carroll at 74, the people around the coach have a hard time envisioning a scenario in which he decides to retire after this year. As challenging as the season has been, his passion for coaching and desire to coach remain apparent to everyone who works with him. That said, with new ownership (Tom Brady included) surrounding Mark Davis, it's fair to wonder what the next steps will be, and whether that group will want to reinvest with Carroll in a set of brand-new assistants he brings aboard."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Carroll, 74, has put together a Hall of Fame-worthy coaching career. He's 172-129-1 all-time in the NFL ranks in stints with the New York Jets, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and Raiders, leading his teams to the playoffs 12 times, the Super Bowl twice and winning a title with the Seahawks in 2013.
But rebuilding these Raiders is no small task. The team lacks talent offensively outside of tight end Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty, and the defense hasn't been much better. Whether Carroll is the right man for the job—or even wants to be going forward after a disastrous first crack at it—remains to be seen.
