Will Jonathan Taylor Sign New Colts Contract? Latest Rumors on RB Amid NFL MVP Hype
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, an NFL MVP candidate, is playing on a three-year, $42 million contract extension that expires after the 2026 season, per Over the Cap.
Given Taylor's tremendous 2025 campaign, that brings up the question of whether the Colts would look to extend the six-year veteran.
Per CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, that isn't the case for Taylor or quarterback Daniel Jones at this moment, although it appears that's because the Colts want to focus now on their incredible season, which has the team 8-2 atop the AFC South.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"Daniel Jones appears to be squarely in Indianapolis's future plans. Jonathan Taylor is in the MVP conversation. But as far as I can tell, it's crickets when it comes to money talks," Jones wrote.
"The Colts appear focused on this season rather than locking up these players mid-season for years to come, according to multiple sources. It makes sense on several levels, including not fraying any nerves when talking about value during what is clearly a special season."
Taylor leads the NFL in rushing yards (1,139) and rushing and receiving touchdowns (17 total) through 10 games. He's fared so well that he's even getting some talk as the potential NFL MVP, an award a non-quarterback hasn't won since 2012 (Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson).
The former Wisconsin star also just authored an amazing performance in Berlin, when he led the Colts to a 31-25 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons thanks to 286 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.
As Jones noted, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley sits atop his position's contract market right now with a deal paying $20.6 million per season. Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has the running back contract with the greatest total value at $48 million.
Jones had more insight on the market relative to a potential deal for Taylor, who turns 27 years old on Jan. 19.
"Speaking of the market, the top of the running back market has been shaped by two-year extensions for Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry and Alvin Kamara ever since Taylor got his deal. He still has one year left on his deal in what will be his age 27 season, so an extension that locks him into Indy through his 20s, close to $20 million per year, would seemingly be what the market dictates."
Taylor, who is running for 6.0 yards per carry and 113.9 rushing yards per game, is undoubtedly the best running back in the game this season. He's certainly deserving of an extension, but it appears one will have to wait until at least after this season.
In the meantime, Taylor and the Colts have a big road game on Sunday at the three-time AFC defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
