Carlos Alcaraz, the world's top-ranked men's tennis player, announced that he will not be competing in the Davis Cup for his home country, Spain, due to an edema in his right hamstring.

Alcaraz also said he was leaving Bologna, Italy, where the Davis Cup is taking place, for home with a "heavy heart."
"I've always said that playing for Spain is the greatest thing there is, and I was really looking forward to helping us fight for the Davis Cup," Alcaraz said.
Spain has advanced to the Final 8 of the tournament and will compete against Czech Republic in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Alcaraz initially hurt his hamstring during the ATP Finals, where he lost in the final round to Jannik Sinner in straight sets on Sunday.
Per the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (h/t Lorraine McKenna of BBC Sport), Alcaraz said he felt "physical discomfort" in the back of his thigh during the first set. He did go to Spain's training camp on Monday but is now heading home.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a successful 2025 season, winning the French and US Opens. He now has six Grand Slam singles titles to his name. Alcaraz also won the Rotterdam Open, the Monte-Carlo Masters, the Italian Open, the Queen's Club Championships, the Cincinnati Open and the Japan Open.
