Patrick Mahomes Takes Blame for Chiefs' Lack of Consistency After Loss to Broncos

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have had moments this season where they look like championship contenders, but it's been a mostly unremarkable year for the team that has reached three consecutive Super Bowls.

After a loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Mahomes took the blame and said he and his squad need to be more consistent.

"I think we're really talented and we've got a lot of great players, but it's about being more consistent. I think it starts with me," Mahomes told reporters. "There's times where I'm firing and we're moving the ball down the field at ease. But there's times where we go in spurts where I miss a throw or a [pass]-protection call.

"We haven't been consistent enough to win games. It starts with me."

Mahomes struggled for a second consecutive game, throwing for 276 yards, a touchdown and an interception on 29-of-45 passing. That performance came after he completed just 44.1 percent of his passes in a loss to the Buffalo Bills.

The Chiefs fell to 5-5 with the loss as their playoff hopes continue to dwindle. If Kansas City fails to reach the postseason, it will be the team's first playoff absence since 2014.

The Chiefs' chances of winning a 10th consecutive division title are almost certainly over as the 9-2 Broncos continue to roll.

Kansas City will face one of the NFL's best teams next week when it takes on the Indianapolis Colts. Mahomes and the Chiefs will look to establish some consistency in that game.
