Brock Purdy Injury Update, Latest on 49ers QB After Taking Big Hit in Loss to Seahawks
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a "stinger" at the end of his team's Week 18 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the game.
Purdy would have stayed in the game had the drive not ended with his incomplete pass, Shanahan said.
"They said Purdy would've gone back in. He checked out alright," Shanahan said.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that Purdy is not expected to miss time despite the injury:
Purdy went down hard late in the 13-3 loss after taking contact from two Seahawks defenders on the final play of the game by the Niners' offense.
There was blood visible on Purdy's thumb earlier in the game, which he finished having gone 19-for-27 with 127 passing yards and an interception to go with 21 yards on the ground.
The 49ers fell to 12-5 on the season and lost out on the top seed in the NFC with the Week 18 loss.
Purdy had thrown for 2,040 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions in eight games heading into Saturday's matchup.
The fourth-year quarterback started the year healthy, but suffered a turf toe injury in Week 1 against the Seahawks. That injury kept him sidelined for two games, and he returned in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Unfortunately, Purdy aggravated the turf toe injury in his return and proceeded to miss six games, making his return in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals.
If Purdy misses any more time during the postseason, the Niners would need to turn to Mac Jones under center.
Jones, who spent the 2024 campaign with the Jaguars after starting his career with the New England Patriots, has spent more time on the field than he likely expected this year. In Purdy's absence, he's logged 289 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions to keep San Francisco in the playoff picture.
For now, the 49ers will hope to begin the postseason with Purdy available to play.
