Freese's Return Delayed,ย Scioscia Comments on Recovery
Sunday, Aug. 9
Despite having to wearย a splint on his injured finger for two weeks, Freese is still unable to throw at full strength, according toย Pedro Moura of the Orange County Register, who added:
"โHe has to close that gap before we send him out on a rehab assignment,โ [Angels manager Mike]ย Scioscia said. โHeโs not gonna be able to help us until he can throw 100 percent.โ One option: Freese could serve as a designated hitter for the first few days of a rehab assignment to allow more time for his throwing to catch up.
"
According to Gonzalez, Freese has had bad luck when it's come to the health of his right hand:ย
Taylor Featherston entered the game for Freese and finished the evening 1-for-2 at the plate.ย Freese was hitting .241 prior to the injury, which would rank as the worst batting average of his career by nearly two points. Over the course of 89 games, he had tallied 11 home runs and 43 RBI.
