What Did Scott Boras Say at MLB Winter Meetings? Quotes on Alonso, Bregman, More

Scott Boras has a busy offseason ahead of him as he represents a handful of notable free agents, and he attended MLB's Winter Meetings on Wednesday to discuss some of his clients.

One of the biggest names to watch this offseason is Pete Alonso, who is a free agent after spending the first seven years of his career with the New York Mets.

What is Alonso looking for in his next team?

"Pete is about winning," Boras told reporters.

Boras also noted that teams are just as interested in his durability as they are in his skills. Alonso has played all 162 games over the last two seasons. In 2025, he collected 38 homers, 126 RBI and a .272 batting average.

Alex Bregman is hitting free agency after a season with the Boston Red Sox, but Boras indicated that Bregman could be back in Fenway in 2026.

"No one wants a Breg-xit," he said.

Boras also represents Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal, who reportedly is at odds with the Tigers about his contract. Boras indicated that the fans in Detroit are all for the Tigers paying Skubal what he wants.

"The fans in Detroit want the Tigers to build a Tarik barrack," he said. "The little Caesar's are running around town saying 'Cy Cy.'"

Boras had a colorful description of free agent Cody Bellinger, calling him a "top gun of the class," a "versatile viper" and a "middle-of-the-lineup merlin." He also said Bellinger was an "Ice Man" for the New York Yankees because he "cooled" any concerns about hitting behind Aaron Judge.

Boras made a Bob Dylan reference when hyping up free agent pitcher Dylan Cease.

"Unlike the other Dylan, he is exclusively electric," Boras said.

He also spoke highly of Gerrit Cole, saying that the New York Yankees pitcher feels great and even sent a video of him pitching to Boras recently.

"He's excited … he has all weapons available to him," he said.
