Trent Grisham Reportedly Accepts Yankees' $22M Qualifying Offer Contract for 2026

Outfielder Trent Grisham is returning to the New York Yankees after accepting the team's one-year, $22 million qualifying offer, according to ESPN's Jorge Castillo.

The 29-year-old Grisham has played seven seasons in the major leagues, and his best one just occurred with the Yankees.

Over 143 games, Grisham hit .235 (.811 OPS) with 34 home runs and 74 RBI. He also scored 87 runs and earned an impressive 125 OPS+ for a 94-win team that tied for first in the American League East with the eventual pennant-winning Toronto Blue Jays.

Grisham did struggle in the playoffs, hitting just .138 and striking out 10 times in 32 plate appearances over seven games.

The two-time Gold Glove winner played for the Milwaukee Brewers during his 2019 rookie season before the team traded him to the San Diego Padres after the season. He spent four years in town before being sent to the Yankees alongside Juan Soto in 2024.

Grisham was a part-time player for the Yanks in 2024 and didn't fare particularly well at the dish (.190 batting average, .675 OPS in 76 games). That capped a six-year run where he hit .213 (.697 OPS) with a 94 OPS+.

However, 2025 featured an amazing turnaround. Of note, per FanGraphs, Grisham enjoyed career-highs in barrel percentage (14.2 percent), hard-hit contact rate (46.4 percent) and exit velocity (91.1 mph).

After the season, the Yankees offered Grisham a qualifying offer that he needed to accept by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Grisham has done just that, and now the Yankees have their starting center fielder back in the mix in 2026 in hopes that he can build off his 2025 campaign and offer more of the same production.
