Jahmyr Gibbs Wears Custom 'Sonic' Thigh Pads in Lions' Win vs. Commanders
It's no wonder Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs had another big game in his team's 44-22 win over the Washington Commanders.
Gibbs ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 9.5 yards per carry, and he caught three passes for 30 yards and one score.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed the two-time Pro Bowler appeared to be wearing a thigh pad with the outline of Sonic the Hedgehog:

Gibbs and teammate David Montgomery have been likened to Sonic and Knuckles from the long-running video game franchise. It's a different spin on the classic thunder and lightning conception that used to be more common in NFL backfields.
"I would say it's pretty accurate, but I would say in some ways, we could change roles, depending on situations," Gibbs told ESPN's Eric Woodyard last November.
He and Montgomery went so far as to model their cleats after the characters' footwear for Detroit's Thanksgiving Day win over the Chicago Bears in 2024:
