Aaron Glenn's Job Security as Jets HC Revealed in Report Amid Fire Sale, NFL Rumors

Paul KasabianNov 8, 2025

New York Jets first-year head coach Aaron Glenn's job remains safe as the team endures a rough 1-7 start as well as the trades of a pair of ex-franchise cornerstones in cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive lineman Quinnen Williams.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that news Saturday, noting that his job won't be affected by the two blockbuster deals.

"Sources paint a clear picture for Gang Green: It won't. In other words, there are no plans for a one-and-done result. Glenn was in lock-step with [Jets general manager Darren Mougey] on each move, with the idea that they would continue to build the roster based on their joint vision going forward."

The Jets started the year losing their first seven games before bouncing back to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 39-38 for win No. 1.

Obviously, the Jets are firmly in rebuilding mode in the first year of this new era, especially after trading Gardner and Williams.

New York now has a host of draft picks to work with over the next few years to form the core of this new team.

Rapoport made clear that Glenn will be the team's sideline leader going forward, regardless of how the 2025 season goes.

"Glenn won't be judged during the 2025 season by what the team's record is, sources say, keeping in mind that he lost two of his best players and must lead a locker room that watched Gardner and Williams leave.

"With quarterback issues and a young team in transition that got even younger this week, there are many factors at play. There appears to be an understanding of where this team is, talent-wise, and how much it needs."

Rapoport further added that sources told him that "they anticipate a far longer stay" for Glenn, who also has a fan in team owner Woody Johnson.

"Further, sources say they anticipate a far longer stay. Owner Woody Johnson recently bolstered that thought, praising Glenn and saying he believes in him: 'I've known Aaron since 1996 (when) I was a fan. I've always been a fan of him. I see the way he handles the room. If I were a player, I'd respond to him because he's the real deal.'"

At this juncture, there are plenty of questions about the team's future, ranging from figuring out the long-term solution at quarterback to personnel on defense with Gardner and Williams no longer aboard. However, there's no question at head coach as Glenn shepherds this team in the present and future.

For now, the Jets will play their first post-trade deadline game on Sunday when they host the Cleveland Browns.
