MLB The Show 26 First Details on Gameplay Changes, Diamond Dynasty, More Revealed

Adam WellsNov 6, 2025

The 2025 MLB season just wrapped up, which means San Diego Studio is actively working on the next iteration of MLB The Show that will be released in 2026.

San Diego Studio provided an update on the status of the new game on Thursday, including changes coming to gameplay, Diamond Dynasty and other areas of focus.

Gameplay is getting an upgrade thanks to "advanced logic and new data metrics" that will redefine pitch effects and bat-to-ball physics.

Given what we know about how important the use of spinrates, launch angles and bat speed can dictate success in real life, it's only fitting that that the video game would take steps to more closely resemble some of those elements.

MLB The Show 26 is bringing back the "Now and Later Packs" in Diamond Dynasty mode, so players still using the 2025 game can still earn The Show Pack for use in the new version.

The studio is also teasing "engaging content for players to live their MLB fantasy as well as new ways to play and use your squads" as part of an upgraded Diamond Dynasty.

One of the big additions in MLB The Show 25 was the inclusion of eight college teams that gamers could send their created player to in Road the Show to build up your draft stock.

Thursday's announcement noted the forthcoming game will feature a "suite of new colleges" in Road to the Show, while also putting a focus on players in their "mid-to-late career."

MLB The Show 26 is also bringing back Storylines: The Negro Leagues for a fourth season. The feature, originally introduced in 2023, will continue to spotlight legends from the Negro Leagues by letting gamers play out historical moments in their careers.

The studio was vague about changes to Franchise mode, only noting it was "building deeper, more immersive, and challenging systems shaped by community feedback."

An official release date for MLB The Show 26 has not been set. The past two versions have come out the third week of March, roughly coinciding with the start of the regular season.

MLB The Show 25 dropped on the first day of the regular season (March 18). The 2024 game released on March 19, one day before Opening Day. The cover athlete will likely be revealed in late January.

The 2026 MLB season begins on March 25 with a standalone game between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants, followed by a 14-game slate with the 28 other teams the next day.
