Commanders' Frankie Luvu to Still Play 'Fast, Physical and Downhill' After $100K Fine
Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu isn't planning on changing his style of play despite receiving a hefty fine for a hip-drop tackle in Week 9.
"I play one way, and that's the only way I know how to play -- that's fast, physical and downhill," Luvu said, per ESPN's John Keim.
He initially received a one-game suspension for a hip-drop tackle on Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba during Washington's 38-14 loss to Seattle on Sunday, although it was later overturned to a $100,000 fine upon appeal.

It marked Luvu's third fine for a hip-drop violation this season, as he drew fines in Week 4 as well as Week 8.
"I [don't] wake up on Sunday mornings and go, 'I can't wait to go out there and hurt somebody,'" Luvu explained, via Keim. "I respect my peers, I respect the players, and I respect the game and also my reputation. ... I play it aggressive, violently."
The 29-year-old is in the midst of his sophomore season with the Commanders, coming off a breakout 2024 campaign in which he earned a Second Team All-Pro selection.
Luvu has recorded 50 tackles, four tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, two passes defended and two sacks across nine appearances this year.
