Commanders' Frankie Luvu's Suspension Reduced to $100K Fine By NFL for Hip-Drop Tackle
The Washington Commanders won't have to face the Detroit Lions without linebacker Frankie Luvu anymore.
Luvu was initially given a one-game suspension for his third hip-drop tackle of the season, but the NFL overturned the suspension and instead gave him a $100,000 fine, meaning he'll be eligible this week.

Luvu had previously been fined twice for hip-drop tackles in Weeks 4 and 8 against the Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively. His third hip-drop tackle came against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
"During the first quarter of the Seattle-Washington game, Luvu violated Rule 12, Section 2, Article 18 (a)(b), which states that: 'It is a foul if a player uses the following technique to bring a runner to the ground: (a) grabs the runner with one or both hands or wraps the runner with both arms; and (b) unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips and/or lower body, landing on and/or trapping the runner's leg(s) at or below the knee,'" a statement from the NFL read.
Had his initial suspension been held up, he also would have lost a $508,333 game check.
Luvu is the Commanders' third-leading tackler, collecting 50 tackles, two sacks, a pair of passes defended and a forced fumble.
Having Luvu on the field for this week's contest against Detroit is a break for the Commanders after a string of bad luck. Washington has been decimated by injuries all year, and it lost three more players to injuries on Sunday.
Cornerback Marshon Lattimore suffered a torn ACL, wide receiver Luke McCaffrey broke his collarbone and, the biggest of all, quarterback Jayden Daniels sustained a dislocated elbow.
The Commanders are 3-6 after Sunday's loss, and making a playoff run without several key players will be tough at this point.
