Kyle Schwarber Reportedly Expected to Have Strong FA Market amid Phillies Rumors

Adam WellsNov 5, 2025

Coming off the best season of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies, Kyle Schwarber has the chance to cash in with one more big free-agent contract.

Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, Schwarber is expected to have a "bountiful" market after being named a finalist for the NL MVP award earlier this week.

Passan noted the three-time All-Star could be in play for some teams outside of the major markets because he is "looking at a maximum five-year deal" due to his age. He will turn 33 on March 5 and has limited versatility as a DH-only option.

Schwarber has experience playing the outfield, but he has only played a total of 13 games in left field since the start of 2024.

Both the Phillies and Schwarber have expressed a desire to remain together, but the team is also facing big free-agent decisions with J.T. Realmuto and Ranger Suárez.

Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told reporters at his end-of-season press conference on Oct. 16 that those three players are a priority, though it's unlikely they will be able to retain them all.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported in September that the "expectation" within MLB is Schwarber will sign a new four-year deal with the Phillies worth around $30 million annually.

Depending on how you classify Shohei Ohtani, that deal would make Schwarber either the first- or second-highest paid DH in MLB. Yordan Alvarez is the only predominant DH player with a contract currently worth at least $100 million.

Schwarber is guaranteed to have his highest MVP finish this year. His previous high mark was 15th in 2024. He hit .240/.365/.563 with an NL-high 56 homers and MLB-best 132 RBI and played all 162 games in the regular season to help the Phillies win the NL East.
