Breece Hall Gets $14.3M Jets Franchise Tag, What's Timeline for New Contract?
After being subjected to trade rumors throughout the first half of the 2025 season, New York Jets running back Breece Hall won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
The Jets placed the franchise tag on Hall on Tuesday, which will guarantee him $14.3 million for the 2026 season. The 2025 season was the final year of his rookie contract.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Schultz added that "both sides are motivated to get a long-term deal done," so it sounds like Hall will be in the Big Apple for the foreseeable future. The Jets will have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term contract, and if one is not reached, he will play out the 2026 campaign on the franchise tag.
Hall endured a tumultuous year that saw New York open the season with a 0-7 record under first-time head coach Aaron Glenn. Still, he was one of the few bright spots on the team, finishing the year with 243 carries for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns for his first career 1,000-yard campaign. He also added 36 catches for 350 yards and another score. He even threw the game-winning touchdown pass to rookie tight end Mason Taylor in the team's first win of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8.
A second-round pick in the 2022 draft, Hall began his career with much promise before a torn ACL cut his rookie season short after seven games. He bounced back nicely and has missed only two games since, but it took some time for him to regain the burst that made him one of the most talented running backs in the league.
After Hall returned to his old form, the Jets opted to retain him at the Nov. 4 trade deadline despite receiving significant interest from contending teams. Schultz even reported at the time that a source said Hall "wants to be out," but he ended up staying put.
New York shocked the football world when it sent star cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts and veteran defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys, acquiring three future first-round picks in the process.
The Jets are tearing things down and rebuilding under Glenn, but it's not a surprise that they want to keep Hall as part of their future. If he can stay healthy, Hall will continue his trajectory toward becoming one of the best lead backs in the NFL.
