Dan Quinn Reacts to Jayden Daniels' Injury amid Criticism, 'Obviously, I'm Bummed'

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was subjected to a wave of criticism after star quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a horrific elbow injury in Sunday night's demoralizing 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The injury occurred midway through the fourth quarter with the Commanders already trailing 38-7, leading many to question why Daniels was still in the game at that point. Quinn faced the music after the loss, and he was understandably down on himself for the unfortunate turn of events.

"I mean, obviously, like, the hindsight, you don't want to think that way, where an injury could take place," Quinn said, per The Athletic's David Aldridge. "You know, obviously, we're more conservative in that spot, to run it and hand off and not have reads to go. But just the end result, obviously, I'm bummed."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow and will undergo an MRI to determine how much time he will miss. While he's reportedly expected to be out for "several" games, there's a "belief" that "it's not as bad as it could've been."

Daniels was making his return after missing Washington's Week 8 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs due to a hamstring injury, and he struggled mightily against a Seattle defense that is developing into one of the best units in the league under second-year head coach Mike Macdonald.

The reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year threw for just 153 yards, no touchdowns and an interception while adding 51 rushing yards and a score. He was sacked four times, his fourth time this season sustaining three or more sacks.

Quinn admitted that the team will have to evaluate how to keep Daniels safe going forward, as he's taken many hits early in his career thanks to his dual-threat skills.

"I think the answer to that is we will give him the support to do that," Quinn said. "I am certain of that, to make sure that we do that in every single way. It's calls, offense, defense, the whole way through. I absolutely feel that way. The hamstring injury (against Dallas two weeks ago), and tonight with an elbow, it's really important that we get that part right. And we will."

It's likely that Daniels will be forced to miss significant time, which would put an end to the Commanders' playoff hopes. Washington (3-6) will be trying to end a four-game losing streak when it faces the Detroit Lions (5-3) next Sunday, and it will have to do so without its talented young signal-caller.
