Kike Hernandez Jokes He 'Was Going to Pull a Willie Mays' Before Andy Pages Collision

Los Angeles Dodgers left fielder Kiké Hernández joked that he was ready to reenact "The Catch" to secure the final out of Saturday's World Series Game 7 ninth inning before Andy Pages bowled him over on his way to the ball.

"I was going to pull a Willie Mays, and then he tackled me, and I felt like I got dunked on, and I thought we lost," Hernández said after the game, per ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.

Pages ended up snagging the out to force the Toronto Blue Jays to extras, where Will Smith's 11th-inning home run sealed the Dodgers' second consecutive championship.

Hernández lay face down on the warning track for a moment after the catch before Pages returned to check on him.

"I was just down because I thought we lost," Hernández told reporters, per Gonzalez. "And he came up to me and said, 'Are you OK?'"

Hernández says he responded by saying, "F--k that, do you have the ball?"

"He's like, 'Yeah,'" Hernández said. "I'm like, 'Yeah, let's go!'"

Mays made his famous catch after diving for a ball that went deep to right center during Game 1 of the 1954 World Series.

The famous catch helped New York keep the game tied with Cleveland in the eighth inning. Mays' team ultimately won 5-2 in extra innings and went on to claim the World Series.

More than 70 years later, the Blue Jays had one out left in a tied bottom of the ninth when Ernie Clement stepped up to the base with two Toronto runners in scoring position.

Clement, who had set an MLB record for hits in a single postseason earlier Saturday night, connected to send the ball deep into left field.

Pages then ran 121 feet, well into Hernández's zone in left field, to make the game-saving catch.

Thanks to a scoreless two extra innings from Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Smith's home run, Hernández and the Dodgers will now spend a second straight winter as World Series champions.
