The Seattle Mariners announced Friday that former pitcher Yoervis Medina died at the age of 37.

Born in Venezuela, Medina signed with the Mariners as an amateur free agent in 2005. He went on to spend parts of three Major League seasons in Seattle and part of one season with the Chicago Cubs.

Over his three MLB seasons from 2013 to 2015, Medina made 146 appearances and went 10-9 with two saves, a 3.08 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP and 147 strikeouts over 146 innings.

Medina was excellent during his first two seasons in Seattle, recording a 2.91 ERA in 2013 and a 2.68 ERA in 2014.

After posting a 3.00 ERA in 12 outings with the Mariners in 2015, he was traded to the Cubs in May of that season for catcher Welington Castillo.

Medina would appear in only five games for the Cubs after the trade, pitching nine innings and delivering a 7.00 ERA.

The Cubs waived Medina after the 2015 season, and he spent part of 2016 in the Philadelphia Phillies minor-league system before continuing his professional career in Venezuela.

Medina's last stats on record came during the 2023 season with Senago Baseball Club of the Italian Baseball League.

In seven starts for Senago, Medina went 0-6 with an 8.01 ERA, 2.18 WHIP and 31 strikeouts over 30.1 innings.
