Yoshinobu Yamamoto Makes History as Dodgers Force World Series Game 7, Thrill MLB Fans

Zach BacharOct 31, 2025

Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the Los Angeles Dodgers escaped with a 3-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 6 of the 2025 World Series on Friday night.

The Blue Jays put runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Tyler Glasnow came in for the Dodgers and forced Ernie Clement to pop out. Andrés Giménez then hit a fly ball that was caught by Kiké Hernández, who fired the ball to second base for a game-ending double play.

Yamamoto, meanwhile, continued his stellar postseason play, as a George Springer single represented his only run given up across six innings of work. He also racked up six strikeouts compared to just one walk.

Fans and pundits were amazed by the thrilling final play, as well as Yamamoto's performance on the mound:

It was an impressive performance from Glasnow, who seemed to be lined up to start in Game 7 before he was brought in to replace Rōki Sasaki following his struggles to open the final inning.

As for Ohtani, he finished 1-for-3 with a walk.

The only runs of the game for both teams came in the third inning, as a two-out RBI double from Will Smith gave Los Angeles a 1-0 edge in the top of the frame.

Mookie Betts followed it up by breaking out of his recent slump with a two-run single.

George Springer responded with his own RBI single in the bottom of the third, but Toronto wouldn't be able to get on the board again for the remainder of the contest.

The Dodgers' bullpen ran into some trouble later in the game, but ultimately stayed sharp. Toronto finished a mere 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Los Angeles was able to stay alive while on the brink of elimination and now has one game left to attempt to clinch its second consecutive World Series title.

Game 7 will be on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
