Jayden Daniels Suffers Gruesome Elbow Injury, Latest on Timeline for Commanders QB

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels exited Sunday's 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks after suffering a gruesome elbow injury.

Daniels went down midway through the fourth quarter after being tackled on a run, and his teammates huddled around him as he was put into an air cast before he left the field.

The details of Daniels' injury are not yet known.

Daniels went 16-of-22 for 153 yards, no touchdowns and one interception prior to exiting. He added 51 rushing yards and one touchdown on 10 carries.

Daniels' health has been a major storyline for the Commanders this season, as he was sidelined for three of the first eight games because of hamstring and knee injuries. That was one reason they found themselves in a 3-5 hole and staring at an uphill battle to get back into the playoff picture.

This was Daniels' first game since Oct. 19.

It didn't take the LSU product long to announce himself to the NFL as the Rookie of the Year in his first season after the Commanders selected him with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2024 draft. 

He also led the team to the NFC Championship Game, which meant there were sky-high expectations heading into his second season before his injuries undercut some of the early momentum.

Daniels completed 69 percent of his passes for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions to go with 891 yards and six scores on the ground as a rookie and has followed by completing 61 percent of his passes for 1,031 yards, eight touchdowns and an interception with 211 yards and a touchdown as a runner in 2025.

Washington turned to Marcus Mariota when Daniels was sidelined this year and will surely continue to do the same whenever needed.

While Mariota is not the same caliber of playmaker as Daniels is, he is at least a veteran option who can use his arm and legs to keep the offense afloat.
