Tyreek Hill Reacts to Chris Grier's Exit as Dolphins GM with Sad Face Emoji

Julia StumbaughOct 31, 2025

Tyreek Hill may be unhappy to hear about the departure of the general manager who brought him to the Miami Dolphins.

Hill posted a sad face emoji Friday, shortly after the Dolphins announced the organization had parted ways with former GM Chris Grier.

Grier was promoted to general manager in 2016. He traded five draft picks to the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire Hill in 2022, then signed him to a $120 million extension that was readjusted to include more guaranteed money in 2024.

That initial deal set a new standard at the time for the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. The renegotiated contract Hill signed ahead of the 2024 season also set a record for the most guaranteed money received by a wide receiver.

Hill has since appeared to make multiple posts in support of Grier, like when he wrote in March 2024 that the Dolphins were "having a sneaky great free agency."

After the Dolphins' 2-3 start to the 2024 season, Hill then posted, "He could go sign Aaron Donald right now yall would fault him and say bro washed."

Grier was ultimately fired halfway through the 2025 season when the Dolphins' record dropped to 2-6 following a Thursday night blowout by the visiting Baltimore Ravens.

The team has been playing without Hill since Week 4, when the wide receiver suffered a knee injury that not only ended his season but led him to say in October he hadn't yet decided if he would be retiring from football.

The Dolphins are now in danger of missing the postseason for a second straight winter after back-to-back playoff appearances in Mike McDaniel's first two seasons as head coach.

Team owner Stephen Ross said in a statement that "change could not wait," and that the Dolphins' improvement "needs to start right now."

Grier's dismissal could lead to further updates on the Dolphins roster. SNY's Connor Hughes reported Friday that wide receiver Jaylen Waddle "wasn't getting moved as long as Chris Grier had a say," but indicated that could change alongside shifts in front office leadership.

Those changes might not lead to an immediate change at head coach. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday that McDaniel is expected to keep his job at least through the rest of the 2025 season.
