Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Talks HR off Shohei Ohtani, Says He Was Looking to 'Do Damage'

Adam WellsOct 29, 2025

After the crushing loss in Monday's 18-inning marathon, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays rebounded with a 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series to even things at two games apiece.

Guerrero made his presence felt with a two-run homer off Shohei Ohtani in the top of the third inning that got the scoring started for the Blue Jays.

Speaking to reporters after his big game, Guerrero noted his approach with Ohtani on the mound was just to "do damage" in whatever way he could.

"It hurts when you lose a game like that, but I was so tired that I just went to sleep," Guerrero said. "I was just looking for a pitch to do damage, and I saw it right there up in the zone and I could do damage."

The Blue Jays superstar went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored. His home run came immediately after the Dodgers got an early lead on Enrique Hernández's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second.

Ohtani entered the game having allowed three runs on five hits with 19 strikeouts in his first two starts as a pitcher in the playoffs. Guerrero's homer was the first allowed by the Dodgers two-way superstar since Aug. 27.

For all of the deserved plaudits Ohtani has received for his performance this postseason, Guerrero is also on one of the great playoff heaters of all-time. He is now hitting .419/.500/.806 with seven homers in 15 games.

The big night from Guerrero not only helped the Blue Jays avoid falling into a 3-1 series deficit, but also ensured the series will go back to Toronto for at least one more game.

Toronto and Los Angeles will play Game 5 at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET, followed by an off day Thursday before the World Series shifts back to the Rogers Centre.
