As for whether he'll be able to play on Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks, however, remains to be seen. ESPN's Adam Schefter offered the following take on Monday's The Pat McAfee Show:
Daniels, 24, has been limited to just five games this season as he's battled with a sprained knee and hamstring issues. When healthy he's been solid, though he's yet to hit the heights of 2024's Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign, throwing for 1,031 yards, eight touchdowns and an interception while rushing for 211 yards and another score.
The Commanders are just 2-3 in his starts, but it obviously hasn't been any better without him, with the team just 1-2 in Marcus Mariota's starts. At 3-5, the Commanders already find themselves three games back of the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles.
"You're kind of putting yourself in a hole," linebacker Bobby Wagner told reporters. "You don't want to dig yourself in a deeper hole."
Getting Daniels back would help, as would a prolonged healthy streak for Terry McLaurin, who returned from a quadriceps injury on Monday night and scored a touchdown, only to leave the game early after aggravating his quad.
"It's a little sore," McLaurin said of the injury after the game. "... It's hard to say what it is or what it isn't."
If the Commanders can get their top weapons back in action, salvaging the season is more than possible. But it starts and ends with the health of Daniels. Tuesday's update from Quinn at least felt like some positive news.
