Blue Jays' George Springer Had MRI for Injury After Exit in World Series Game 3 Loss

Adam WellsOct 28, 2025

In addition to the heartbreak of losing an 18-inning thriller to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night, the Toronto Blue Jays also have to worry about George Springer's availability for the rest of the series.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters after the 6-5 loss that Springer had an MRI after exiting in the top of the seventh due to discomfort in his right side.

"George, it's some right side discomfort," Schneider said. "He already went for a MRI. We'll see how it comes back and see how he walks up [Tuesday], but it sucks."

The injury occurred during an at-bat when Springer grabbed at his side after fouling a pitch off. He immediately signaled for the training staff to come out and exited the game.

Ty France came in to pinch-hit for Springer and took his spot at designated hitter. Davis Schneider replaced France as a pinch-runner in the top of the 10th.

Springer has been beat up in this postseason. He was hit by a pitch directly on the kneecap in Game 5 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners, then got hit by a pitch on the hand in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday night.

None of those previous issues caused Springer to miss a game. He did exit the game against the Mariners, but was back in the lineup for Game 6.

If the Blue Jays determine that Springer's injury is too severe for him to start, they will have to decide whether or not to keep him on the 26-man roster with the hope he might be able to pinch hit at some point.

Depending on Springer's availability, Bo Bichette could slot into the DH spot since he has been playing second base in this series after returning from a knee injury.

The potential loss of Springer would be a huge blow to Toronto's lineup if he is out. He led the team with 32 homers, a .399 on-base percentage and .560 slugging percentage in the regular season.

In 14 playoff games, Springer is hitting .246/.323/.561 with four homers.

Game 4 of the World Series between the Blue Jays and Dodgers will be played on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
