Dodgers' Dave Roberts 'Spent Emotionally' After Historic 18-Inning World Series G3 Win

Mike ChiariOct 28, 2025

Manager Dave Roberts commented after his Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night to win Game 3 of the 2025 World Series 6-5 in 18 innings.

Speaking to reporters following the historic game, Roberts said, "It's one of the greatest World Series games of all time. I'm spent emotionally."

The Dodgers tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a solo home run by Shohei Ohtani, and from that point forward, both teams had and squandered numerous opportunities to win the game.

L.A. finally cashed in during the bottom of the 18th when potential future Hall of Fame first baseman Freddie Freeman's World Series heroics took center stage once again.

Leading off the inning, the 36-year-old star launched a solo shot to center field off Blue Jays reliever Brendon Little, giving Los Angeles a 6-5 win and a 2-1 lead in the series, and sending the Dodger Stadium faithful into a frenzy.

Monday's game, which didn't end until the early-morning hours of Tuesday on the East Coast, ended up tied with Game 3 of the 2018 World Series between the Dodgers and Boston Red Sox as the longest World Series game in history in terms of innings played.

It is fitting that Freeman ended Game 3 of the 2025 World Series given what he did en route to the Dodgers winning the World Series last year.

In Game 1 of the 2024 World Series, Freeman hit a walk-off grand slam to beat the Yanks, and he went on to hit a total of four home runs in the series en route to being named World Series MVP.

Monday's Game 3 was a pivotal contest, and Toronto had its chances to win, but shutting down the Dodgers' offense for the entirety of nine extra innings was always going to be a tall task given the presence of Ohtani, Freeman, Mookie Betts and a host of other big bats.

While Game 3 likely took a toll on both teams, one can only assume that the Dodgers are energized by the dramatic victory entering Game 4.

Despite how emotionally drained Roberts and so many others involved with Game 3 may be, Game 4 is set for Tuesday night, and the Dodgers have the momentum firmly on their side.
