The move comes a week after the Tennessee Titans released Lockett, who had 10 receptions for 70 yards with the team. Meanwhile, rumors continue to swirl around Las Vegas pass-catcher Jakobi Meyers.
Meyers, who's entering free agency in 2026, acknowledged in September he requested a trade from the Raiders. His stance remained the same into October as the Nov. 4 deadline inched closer.
"Oh, for sure," he told reporters about whether he still preferred an exit. "But I'm a professional at the end of the day. I'm just trying to play good football. If I'm here, I'll play good football. If I'm not here, I'll go out there and play wherever I'm supposed to be."
Lockett clearly isn't intended to be a replacement for Meyers given where they're at in their respective careers. Meyers is five years younger and had a career-best season in 2024 (87 receptions for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns), while Lockett has seen his production steadily decline.
Beyond providing depth to the receiving corps, this move is more about filling the void Amari Cooper left when he abruptly retired from the NFL days out from Vegas' opener.
Star tight end Brock Bowers has battled through a knee injury as well. The 2024 All-Pro has appeared in four games and averaged nearly 14 fewer receiving yards compared to his rookie campaign.
Lockett is an experienced option for the passing attack, and his familiarity with Smith and Carroll could help him make a positive impact in Sin City.
