Updated 2026 NFL Draft Order After Sunday's Week 8 Results

Joe TanseyOct 27, 2025

The New York Jets relinquished the No. 1 overall pick in the projected 2026 NFL draft order after their first win of the 2025 season on Sunday.

The Jets had been on top of the projected order for weeks, but now the New Orleans Saints reside in that position.

One win likely won't change New York's top-pick candidacy. The Jets are still expected to be in contention with the Saints, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns.

The Saints, Jets and Titans left Week 8 as the only one-win teams in the NFL. Six franchises have two wins, so mathematically there is still a wide pool for the No. 1 overall pick.

The Saints assumed the top spot in the projected draft order after Sunday's games, and they might not give that position back for a while.

New Orleans is on the road against the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams prior to its Week 11 bye.

The Saints have three vital matchups in the final part of the regular season against the Jets, Titans and Dolphins that will sort out the top part of the draft order.

The Jets come out of their Week 9 bye to face the Browns in an important contest for the order of the top five.

New York faces Miami for the second time and New Orleans in December. Right now, those are the most important games on the Jets schedule because of the draft context.

Miami surprised plenty of people with its road blowout win over the Atlanta Falcons. There's a chance the Dolphins play their way out of the top pick conversation by beating the Saints and Jets in consecutive weeks.

Before that, the Dolphins run a gauntlet of three games versus the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills and Washington Commanders. That run begins on Thursday at home against Baltimore.

The Ravens started to pull themselves out of the bottom third of the AFC with a victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Lamar Jackson hasn't returned yet, but there's still an expectation that Baltimore won't be anywhere close to the top five of the draft order when everything is settled.

Tennessee is the other team to watch for the top pick, but it plays a heavy home schedule in the second half of the season.

The Titans don't leave Nashville for the entire month of November. They've already played five road games, so the schedule balances out for them in the next month. That could be the X-factor that helps them pull off a win or two before the crucial draft clashes with Cleveland and New Orleans in December.
