Jerry Jones Says Cowboys' Loss to Broncos Won't Impact 2025 NFL Trade Deadline Plans

Timothy RappOct 26, 2025

The Dallas Cowboys gave up 44 points and 426 yards of total offense on Sunday in a blowout loss against the Denver Broncos. But that, apparently, won't impact the team's decision-making process ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 4.

"If I saw a proposition for us to help this team, no matter what the score was today, then I would look at it on the merits of helping this team," owner Jerry Jones told reporters. "And if you're talking about trading for a player or trading a player, I'd completely look at it on the merits of the team, both for next week and the weeks after, or for the longer term. So no, today would not affect a decision on trading."

Perhaps the 30 points and 410 yards of total offense—including 216 yards on the ground—the Cowboys gave up in a loss to the Carolina Panthers might factor into the team's plan ahead of the trade deadline? Or what about the 40 points and 489 yards of offense the defense gave up in a tie against the Green Bay Packers? Or the 31 points and 385 yards allowed in a loss to the Chicago Bears?

Look, the Cowboys stink on defense. They dramatically need help in the secondary and off the edge, among other defensive needs. Dak Prescott and the offense have generally been very good, minus a pretty meh showing on Sunday, but the Cowboys have zero chance at contending with the defense structured as is.

Jones and the front office aren't going to show their cards, but you don't need to be an expert to see that the Cowboys' defense is perhaps the worst in the NFL. If they have any actual desire to reach the postseason this year, they'll address those weaknesses before Nov. 4.
