Desi Druschel Reportedly Rejoins Yankees' Coaching Staff After 1 Season with Mets

Andrew PetersOct 26, 2025

After just one season in Queens, Desi Druschel is heading back to the Bronx.

Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, the pitching coach is returning to the New York Yankees after spending the 2025 campaign with the New York Mets. According to Passan, Druschel will serve as an assistant to pitching coach Matt Blake.

Druschel, 50, has spent most of his career in the collegiate ranks and was hired by the Yankees in 2019. He was promoted to pitching coach after the 2021 season and held that role until 2024, when he left to join the Mets, serving under pitching coach Jeremy Hefner. The Mets fired Hefner after the 2025 campaign.

Along with Hefner, the Mets saw the departures of bench coach John Gibbons, hitting coaches Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes, infield coach Mike Sarbaugh, and retiring catching instructor Glenn Sherlock this offseason. Druschel now joins those staff members with his exit.

According to Passan, Druschel was given permission to speak to other teams following Hefner's departure, and he ultimately decided to return to the Yankees.

The Mets struggled in the second half of the season and ultimately missed the playoffs, with rotation and bullpen struggles being key factors. They finished 18th in baseball with a 4.04 team ERA.

While the Mets' pitching was rough a season ago, the Yankees clearly trust that Druschel wasn't to blame, and he'll look to find more success now that he's back with his former club.
