Brett Favre Talks Aaron Rodgers vs. Packers and Praises Shedeur Sanders, Dart, More

Doric SamOct 26, 2025

Ahead of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' first meeting against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night since they traded him two years ago, he received a vote of confidence from someone who was once in his shoes.

Legendary quarterback Brett Favre, who played for the Packers from 1992 to 2007 before being traded, spoke to TMZ about Rodgers' mindset for his first game against his former team, and he said he expects a huge performance from the 41-year-old.

"I don't know if revenge would be, in Aaron's case, the right word. I think he certainly wants to prove that he's got a lot of juice in the tank. Now, his departure was a little bit different than mine, obviously. But make no mistake about it, he will want to play the best game he's ever played," Favre said. "And not because he hates the Packers or anything like that, that's not the case, but that's your old team. The body of work that he left behind in Green Bay is second to none, and he certainly doesn't want to lay an egg in maybe his last game against the Packers."

Favre was also asked about multiple quarterbacks around the NFL, including the Cleveland Browns' handling of rookie signal-callers Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, the latter of whom was named their starter. While he wouldn't go as far as saying the Browns need to get rid of Sanders rather than keeping him behind Gabriel, he feels Sanders will need to prove his worth whenever he gets his chance.

"That's not for me to say, I'd like to see him get a shot," Favre said of Sanders. "I think Gabriel has stepped in and has played fairly well. So, it's not for me to say. I think Shedeur has the ability to play and play at a high level. It's just a matter of when, I don't think it's if, it's when he gets those opportunities, whether it be Cleveland or somewhere else, [and what] he makes with that opportunity, because I don't think he's gonna get a lot of chances."

Another rookie quarterback making waves is New York Giants starter Jaxson Dart, who injected new life into the franchise and gives the fans hope for the future. Favre said he's been impressed by the 22-year-old's early performance.

"He's playing well. Whether you like him or not, whether you pull for the Giants or not, you can't deny that he brings a certain level of excitement and enthusiasm that they haven't seen in quite a while. I like his spunk," Favre said of Dart.

While the Giants focus on developing Dart, their former quarterback Daniel Jones is thriving with the Indianapolis Colts, who have the best record in the entire NFL at 6-1. Favre had high praise for Jones turning his career around with his new team.

"I don't know Daniel, but you can't help but be happy and pull for the guy," Favre said. "They may be the hottest team in football, he may be one of the hotter quarterbacks in football. That's quite a big difference from the past few years."

Favre, who is no stranger to great expectations, also touched on the struggles by Texas quarterback Arch Manning, who entered the year as the presumed No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Manning has had a year full of ups and downs, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he stays in college for another year, but Favre still feels the future is bright for the youngster with the famous lineage.

"The expectation level, I think, is one that he can handle," Favre said. "But there's times when expectations, whether it be him or other players, are almost unattainable. I'm not saying that's the case with Arch, but the sky's the limit for him, and I think he'll settle down. A lot of pressure on him, I think he'll be fine."
