Eagles' Jeffrey Lurie Discusses How Jalen Hurts, Team Manage 'Noise' Amid NFL Rumors

Timothy RappOct 25, 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles have started the 2025 season 5-2, though you might not know it given the angst in Philly about the team's inconsistent offense, not to mention the constant storylines about A.J. Brown's seeming discontent with his role.

But within the organization, team owner Jeffrey Lurie is all about building a culture that is immune to those external distractions.

"Being able, in today's world, to manage the noise in a way where it relegates it to a bare minimum—that's a key to winning," he told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. "You hope to have a culture that's able to do that. It's not guaranteed. But we purposely are very intentional about it. ... It's one of the reasons we build the roster the way we do with some of the people we do, like Jalen [Hurts]. You have to have that resilience and understanding, especially in the world today. If you can't block out most of the noise, you're not going to maximally perform. And Jalen is one of those where, the more noise there is, the better he performs."

The Eagles also don't shy away from intense and diverse personalities.

"It's not conflict. It's intensity," Lurie told Dianna Russini when asked about the perceived internal conflict on the team. "The players respect it. I like intensity. The players are intense. Howie's intense, I'm intense, the coach is intense. Every week, every situation, we approach it with intensity. ... "We encourage it. We want different personalities. Sometimes, in trades or in free agency, we'll bring people in that complement those that we have. They're different on purpose. We don't want sameness."

Lurie added that the key to building that sort of roster is having "one of the best connectors in sports" in head coach Nick Sirianni. And the Eagles have remained one of the league's most successful organizations, with two titles, three Super Bowl appearances and seven playoff berths since 2017.

So it may not always been sunshines and rainbows, but it's mostly working.
