He's served as a game-planning and run-prevention coach for the Red Sox.
Varitek has generated interest from opposing teams in the past, as he was a candidate for the San Francisco Giants' managerial vacancy at the end of the 2023 season.
With several teams currently looking for new managers, Varitek discussed his future with the Red Sox in a recent radio interview with WEEI.
"You have to see everything that goes on," Varitek said, per McAdam. "Have I dumped everything I've had to make this organization better? And the people that you mentor, coach, and be a part of? Yes. Do I want to continue to do that? Yes. But I have to see where it all lies."
The former catcher spent his entire MLB career with Boston, suiting up in 1,546 games from 1997 through 2011. Varitek amassed 193 home runs and 306 doubles to go along with 757 RBI, hitting .256 while posting a .776 OPS.
He earned three All-Star nods and was eventually inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2016.
For the 2026 season, Boston will be looking to build upon an encouraging 2025 campaign. The Red Sox finished with a record of 89-73, advancing to the postseason for the first time since 2021.
