Mac Jones Earns $400K Contract Bonus amid Brock Purdy Injury as 49ers Beat Falcons

Mac Jones is reviving his career with the San Francisco 49ers as he fills in for quarterback Brock Purdy, and it's leading to financial benefits.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero noted that Jones earned a $400,000 contract bonus for winning his fourth game of the season on Sunday as the 49ers beat the Atlanta Falcons. He will also earn $100,000 for each win after Sunday's.

Considering Jones' base salary for the 2025 season is $1.17 million, the $400,000 and possibly more that he'll earn is no small figure. It also gives him more motivation to continue playing the way he has.

Purdy has been dealing with a turf toe injury that has forced him to miss five games, and it's still unclear exactly when he could be back on the field.

While San Francisco would ultimately like to have its usual starter back, Jones has done more than just manage in his place. In five starts, Jones has thrown for 1,404 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions, winning four of the five games he's started.

He didn't have his best outing against the Falcons on Sunday, throwing for 152 yards and an interception, but it was enough to get a win thanks to a big performance from running back Christian McCaffrey.

Jones, a former first-round pick in 2021, has had a bit of an up-and-down start to his career. He started for the New England Patriots as a rookie before being benched in 2023, and he was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars after the season.

He ended up playing 10 games last year while filling in for the injured Trevor Lawrence, but decided to sign with San Francisco ahead of the 2025 campaign.

Now, Jones is showing he's more than capable of starting and leading a team to wins, and it could lead to him earning a big contract when he hits free agency.

For now, he'll focus on winning with the 49ers and collecting $100,000 bonuses.
