Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb Show Support for George Pickens to Get New Cowboys Contract

Paul KasabianOct 16, 2025

Wide receiver George Pickens has enjoyed a sensational start to his time with the Dallas Cowboys, catching an NFL-high six touchdown passes to go along with 32 receptions and 525 yards.

Pickens, who arrived via trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers last May, is an unrestricted free agent after this season. Naturally, Cowboys players want to see Pickens back in the mix long-term, including quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Lamb has dealt with a high left ankle sprain suffered in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears that largely kept him out for that game plus each of the next three. Pickens has stepped up as WR1 in his stead and been on fire in the last four contests, catching 24 passes for 427 yards and five scores.

He's been a big reason why Dallas is third in scoring right now at 29.7 points per game.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters (h/t ESPN's Todd Archer) said he's happy with how the trade has turned out but didn't get much into specifics on a new deal.

"In every aspect of it, he's doing more than we did expect or that we could have expected," Jones said. "And what's really special is he's a real plus to have around the team. He's a real plus around his teammates. He's a great plus around those coaches, and the coaches really think highly of him. So he's not only doing it on the field, he's doing it as part of the team concept, and that's very important and, in his particular case, should be noted.

"You know, we'll weigh that. We knew full well that if things really went like we want them to go, that certainly we needed to think about having some room available if we were going to pay a second receiver at that level."

The first receiver Jones is referring to is Lamb, who signed a four-year, $136 million contract last summer.

As far as Pickens goes, he said (h/t Archer) that he wouldn't mind sticking around.

"I wouldn't mind it," Pickens said Wednesday. "The guys in the locker room are super cool. The energy is great. But, like I've said, I always want to showcase my talents, most definitely."

Pickens was also asked if his contract situation makes him nervous.

"I probably wouldn't say all that because I'm definitely in the middle of the season, so I'm not fully, fully thinking about it. I kind of just want to keep going and see how far we can get as far as the playoffs and things like that."

For now, Pickens is looking to keep his great season going and help the 2-3-1 Cowboys get back to .500. The Washington Commanders will visit the Cowboys next on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
