Cam Ward Reacts to Brian Callahan Being Fired as Titans HC After 1-5 Start
The Tennessee Titans have entered a new era after the team fired head coach Brian Callahan after a 1-5 start (4-22 overall since his arrival).
Titans senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy has been named interim head coach. On Wednesday, quarterback Cam Ward was asked about how things are now post-Callahan, and he provided this response while also speaking well about his ex-coach.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"I think from a day-to-day process, it really doesn't change anything, coming from myself to the other players on the team, we still have our routine to install the gameplan that we go through, nothing really changes. I think the biggest thing just you feel for him just because, like, what he's done for me to get to this point, just through the draft prep, through the offseason training camp work, you know, how he's helped me get to this point. And so I feel for him, but I mean, just from the process standpoint, nothing changes for us."
Ward was then asked about his relationship with McCoy and how he sees things going moving forward.
"It's been good. He's one of the first people to greet me, once I came in on my visit here...he'd had a history with good quarterbacks. Got a chance to work with Philip Rivers (when McCoy was the head coach of the then-San Diego Chargers from 2013-2016).
"But then just the attitude that he brings to just the team, the building and he wants us to play winning football, he's going to get that out of us. And so, you know, we just got to buy-in, come in together, you know, with coach and make plays for each other."
It's been a tough start for the Titans on both sides of the ball, with the team currently 31st in scoring and 26th in points allowed.
Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, has struggled out of the gate, completing 55.0 percent of his passes for just 183.5 yards per game, three touchdowns and four interceptions. He's also been sacked an NFL-high 25 times and lost four fumbles.
Of course, Ward is capable of far better play. As the pre-draft process rolled on, Ward became the clear-cut No. 1 overall option for the Titans after a tremendous collegiate career.
Unfortunately, Tennessee is a team in turmoil, with the Titans being unable to get much going. After the team dropped to 0-4, Ward infamously told reporters: "If we keeping it a buck right now, we ass."
The Titans' lone win was a gift courtesy of the Arizona Cardinals after running back Emari Demercado dropped the ball before the goal line on what would have been a 72-yard touchdown run to give his team a 27-6 lead. Instead, the Titans took that opportunity and roared back for a 22-21 win to move to 1-4.
Tennessee regressed last Sunday, losing 20-10 to a fellow one-win team, the Las Vegas Raiders.
After that game, Titans defensive star Jeffery Simmons said the team had its worst week of practice.
Callahan said he was "discouraged by the outcome."
In the end, the Titans felt they needed to make a change, and now they enter next week with McCoy leading the sideline.
Tennessee will begin this new era by seeing an old friend, ex-Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who now leads the AFC East-leading New England Patriots. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
