Browns' Myles Garrett Says Even 'Butt-Ass Naked' He'd Still Struggle vs. Steelers

Timothy RappOct 12, 2025

Myles Garrett offered a bizarre assessment of his quiet performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday after he had just two tackles and no sacks or quarterback hits in a 23-9 loss.

"They stopped us as a D-line front," he told reporters. "They got in chunk formations. They chipped after [Aaron Rodgers] got the ball out. ... There weren't a lot of situations where, even if I was running butt-ass naked, I could've gotten there."

Perhaps Garrett was suggesting that Pittsburgh's offensive line wouldn't have been very interested in laying hands on him to block if he wasn't wearing any clothes, though it was certainly an interesting way to make his point.

Garrett also seemed to take some shots at the team's struggling offense in his postgame press conference:

Any public frustrations Garrett expresses will only be magnified by the fact that he publicly requested a trade in the offseason before relenting, with the Browns providing $123.5 million reasons for him to change his mind.

The Browns never seemed particularly interested in trading the four-time first-team All-Pro and 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, and for good reason—his 106.5 sacks, 208 quarterback hits and 124 tackles for loss since he was drafted in 2017 have made him one of the most disruptive defensive players in the NFL.

But the Browns also have been mired in poor offensive play for several years now, with the ill-fated trade and extension for Deshaun Watson wasting a number of seasons. Heading into 2025 the team had an odd plan at quarterback, bringing aboard veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett in the offseason while drafting Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Flacco was extremely poor and was eventually benched in favor of Gabriel. The team then traded him to the Cincinnati Bengals, much as Pickett was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in late August, leaving only the two rookies at the position.

Through it all, the offense has been mediocre, failing to score more than 17 points once. On Sunday, the Browns only mustered 248 yards of total offense and gave up six sacks, plagued by dropped passes and an inability to run the ball (65 yards on 17 attempts).

Garrett and the defensive line didn't help matters much, but when the opposing offense would have only needed 10 points to beat you anyway, it was probably a moot point. In that regard, Garrett's frustrations are more than understandable, though a veteran leader expressing them publicly isn't a great sign.
