Ravens DC Zach Orr Says He's Not Worried About Job Security Amid Unit's Struggles

Andrew PetersOct 9, 2025

The Baltimore Ravens' defense has been the team's weakest link amid a 1-4 start, but defensive coordinator Zach Orr isn't worried about keeping his job.

"I'm able to block that out," Orr told reporters on Thursday. "I'm honestly not worried about it, I'm just focused on this Sunday... I'm not really worried about what happens, I'm just worried about finding a way to get a win on Sunday and stop a high-powered offense with LA coming in."

Through the first five games of the season, the Ravens have given up the second-most yards per game (408.8) and the most points per game (35.4). They've allowed 30 or more points in four games and 40-plus points twice. Baltimore has set a franchise record for the most points through five games with 177.

After the Ravens gave up 44 points to the Houston Texans last week, head coach John Harbaugh said making changes to the defensive staff is not the "answer."

"You try to do the most productive things, and I do not think that that's the answer," Harbaugh said. "We've got to go to work, is what we need to do. We need to stick together, is what we need to do. We need to find ourselves, and it has to do with coaches and players together."

In Orr's defense, the Ravens have been dealing with injuries to several key players on defense throughout the early part of the season, including cornerback Marlon Humphrey, safety Kyle Hamilton, interior linebacker Roquan Smith, and defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike.

Once the Ravens get a healthy defense back, things should improve, and Orr needs that to happen to ensure job security heading into the rest of the season. Baltimore had a solid defense in Orr's first season in 2024, giving up just 21.2 points per game, so he's shown he's capable of putting together a competitive defense.

But even if things get better on defense, the Ravens still have a tall task ahead as they're likely to be without star quarterback Lamar Jackson once again this week. Jackson's absence just puts more pressure on Orr to turn things around.
