Satou Sabally Out for WNBA Finals Game 4 After Being Diagnosed with Concussion

Joseph ZuckerOct 9, 2025

The road back for the Phoenix Mercury in the 2025 WNBA Finals just got more difficult.

The team announced three-time All-Star Satou Sabally will miss Game 4 on Friday due to a concussion. She had exited in the fourth quarter of Phoenix's 90-88 defeat to the Las Vegas Aces in Game 3.

Sabally was jostling for a rebound when she fell to the floor, with her head hitting the knee of Aces forward Kierstan Bell on the way down.

Despite her absence, the Mercury mounted a frenzied comeback in the final four minutes, tying the game at 88-88 before Aces star A'ja Wilson hit a dagger with less than a second remaining.

Sabally is Phoenix's leading scorer in the playoffs at 19 points per game. She has also averaged seven rebounds and 2.5 assists while knocking down the most threes (24) across 10 contests.

The Mercury already knew they had to reel off four straight wins in order to capture their fourth championship. Now, simply stretching the series to fifth game could be a challenge.

Like pretty much every other coach in the WNBA right now, Phoenix's Nate Tibbetts doesn't have an answer for Wilson. The four-time MVP is averaging 27.7 points, 12.7 boards and 1.7 blocks in the Finals. Fellow stars Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray and Jewell Loyd are stepping up in a big way, too.

Even at full strength, Phoenix looked overmatched. With Sabally out of the lineup, it will struggle even more to keep pace with Las Vegas in a must-win situation.
