Chargers' Omarion Hampton Will Go on IR, Out At Least 4 Games with Ankle Injury

Timothy RappOct 6, 2025

The Los Angeles Chargers already lost Najee Harris for the entirety of the 2025 season due to a torn Achilles. Now, Omarion Hampton will now miss time as well.

Hampton will be placed on injured reserve and miss at least four games after suffering an ankle injury during Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders.

On the plus side, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Hampton is expected to return after just four games:

Hampton rushed 12 times for 44 yards in the loss and added six catches for 26 yards. Kimani Vidal (four rushes for 18 yards) and Hassan Haskins (five carries for 13 yards) also saw work out of the backfield, largely after Hampton left the game in the third quarter and didn't return.

According to Daniel Popper of The Athletic, the rookie running back left the locker room after the game in a walking boot.

The 22-year-old Hampton, a first-round pick in April, looked as though he was primed for a huge season after rushing for 198 yards and two touchdowns in the two weeks leading up to Sunday's matchup with the Commanders.

Offensive coordinator Greg Roman told reporters the team needed to "find a way to give him more opportunities" on Thursday.

"He keeps moving forward," he added. "I think he's on a very good trajectory. We're bringing him into this league at a good pace. I really feel good about it, and you can start to see his growth week after week after week in a lot of different areas. There were some subtle things he did like a veteran last week that two weeks prior he wouldn't have done that way. You saw the juice."

Unfortunately, the injury has now slowed his progress. And the Chargers themselves aren't trending in a great direction, losers of two straight, so being without one of their top offensive playmakers would hardly be ideal.

It may mean a platoon of Vidal and Haskins for at least the next four weeks.
