Breece Hall Trade Reportedly Hasn't Been Indicated by Jets amid NFL Rumors
Running back Breece Hall seemed like a clear trade candidate at the start of the season if the New York Jets struggled, but that reportedly has changed despite the team's 0-4 record.
ESPN's Rich Cimini reported Sunday that "the Jets have given no indication they want to deal Hall" even though he "will generate interest" and has been "the subject of trade rumors since the draft."
Running back depth is more of a concern now than when those rumors were circulating, as Braelon Allen is sidelined with a knee injury that could keep him out for eight to 12 weeks.
That means Hall is the only clear-cut No. 1 running back on New York's roster, as Isaiah Davis had just 30 carries as a rookie last season and five carries through the first four games this season.
Still, Hall is on the final season of his contract and could end up signing elsewhere next offseason. If New York doesn't quickly turn things around before the Nov. 4 trade deadline and is playing out the string on a lost season at that point, it probably makes sense to see what it can get for the running back regardless of Allen's health.
Such a trade would allow the Jets to get something in return for Hall and give them an opportunity to see what they have in Davis, who was a fifth-round pick in last year's draft.
They also have veteran Khalil Herbert, who they signed after Allen's injury and has experience playing with quarterback Justin Fields from their time on the Chicago Bears. Herbert isn't a season-altering addition, but his presence at least means the inexperienced Davis wouldn't be the only one in the backfield rotation.
At this point, the best thing for the Jets would be for Hall to play at a high level in the immediate future to either help them string together some wins and move up the standings or increase his trade value before the Nov. 4 deadline.
