Walt Weiss, Braves Agree to Manager Contract After Brian Snitker Exit

Walt Weiss will be tasked with leading the Atlanta Braves back to the postseason in 2026, as he was named the team's new manager on Monday.

ESPN's Jeff Passan first reported the news.

Weiss went 283-365 as the manager of the Colorado Rockies from 2013 to 2016. The team finished under .500 in each of his four seasons, never surpassing 75 wins in a single season.

Now, he will be tasked with following in Brian Snitker's footsteps after serving as the team's bench coach since Nov. 2017.

The Braves announced on Oct. 1 that Snitker would step into an advisory role after 10 seasons and a 2021 World Series win with the club.

Snitker, who had been a member of the Braves organization since 1977, stepped away from his managerial role after leading his club to a losing record last season for the first time since 2017.

The Braves finished the 2025 season with a 76-86 record, marking a fourth-place finish in the NL East and missing out on a postseason berth.

Snitker initially took over for former manager Fredi González 37 games into the 2016 season, then snapped a four-year postseason drought by leading the Braves back to the postseason in 2018.

After losing the 2020 NLCS to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games, Snitker led the franchise to its first World Series appearance since 1996 the following year. The Braves went on to claim a six-game 2021 World Series win over the Houston Astros.

Atlanta hasn't been as far as the NLCS since then, however. The club missed out on the postseason altogether in 2025 after injuries and underperformances from key players tanked the club's hopes of October baseball.

The Braves showed flashes of promise at the end of the 2025 campaign, including during a 10-game win streak in September. Weiss will look to build on that late-season surge as he looks to lead a healthier Braves roster back to the top of the NL East next spring.
