Ron Washington Reportedly Won't Return as Angels Manager for 2026 MLB Season

The Los Angeles Angels will be searching for a new manager for the 2026 season and beyond.

Per The Athletic's Sam Blum, Ron Washington will not return as Angels manager next year. Interim manager Ray Montgomery also reportedly won't be back with the team in 2026.

Washington joined the Angels prior to the 2024 season and led the team to a 63-99 record in his first year at the helm. He was forced to depart the team in June after 80 games and a 40-40 record due to health issues.

Last month, Washington revealed that he was recovering from quadruple bypass heart surgery and wouldn't return to the Angels for the remainder of the year. He visited the team eight weeks after undergoing surgery.

"(Doctors) told me by the time I reach eight weeks I could start doing some light work, but my light work was to come up to Texas and be with the team," Washington said at the time. "I feel great, I really do. … I didn't come here to work, I came here to be around my guys and have fun with them."

Montgomery took over for Washington and led the Angels to a 72-90 finish. The team missed the playoffs for the 11th straight season.

Blum added that there's "no confirmed information regarding" the status of Angels general manager Perry Minasian.

It's clear that the next person hired as Angels manager will have a massive undertaking to try to turn the franchise around, so the team will have to be thorough in its search this winter.
