Jets' Aaron Glenn Talks Viral Video of Sideline Dance, 'I'm Always Going to Be Me'
New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn drew some attention for his sideline dance during last Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he isn't backing down from it.
Glenn went viral for his celebratory strut after edge rusher Will McDonald IV blocked a field goal attempt and returned it for a touchdown to give the Jets a late lead. Unfortunately, Tampa Bay answered right back with a game-winning field goal as time expired to send New York to a 0-3 record.
While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Glenn said he has no regrets about his premature celebration.
"Here's what I do know: I'm always going to be me," Glenn said. "Listen, these guys need someone that's going to show they believe in them and that's going to be proud when they make plays… If I didn't do that, my wife and kids would've said, 'What's happening? What's going on with you?' I'm glad that I'm never going to be fake. I'm always going to be me."
In addition to creating a viral moment, Glenn's celebration was meme'd multiple times with songs being dubbed over his dance:
Glenn is trying to instill a new culture within a Jets team that hasn't made the playoffs in 14 years, the longest active streak in the NFL. His energetic and outspoken nature is a significant departure from the stoicism of former head coach Robert Saleh.
While Glenn appears to have the support of his players, things will get testy in New York if he doesn't start to produce some wins. The Jets will have a good chance to earn Glenn's first win when they meet the 0-3 Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football.
