After the North Stars relocated to Dallas following the 1992-93 season, Minnesota was awarded an expansion franchise by the NHL in 1997. One year later, it was revealed the team would use the Wild as their nickname.
The Wild debuted on Oct. 6, 2000, losing 3-1 to the Anaheim Ducks. In the first 24 years of the franchise's existence, it has made the postseason 14 times. Its best run was an appearance in the Western Conference Finals during the 2002-03 season.
As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, the Wild announced they will have four special games and additional theme nights. The anniversary jerseys will be worn for their games against the Winnipeg Jets (Oct. 28), Nashville Predators (Nov. 4), Colorado Avalanche (Dec. 21) and Florida Panthers (Jan. 24).
In addition to players wearing the jerseys, the Wild are encouraging fans to wear white to those four specific games for a "white out." Fans will also be able to purchase a 25th anniversary book written by Bob Showers starting Oct. 11.
Showers, who previously wrote books about the North Stars and Minnesota Twins, once worked as an executive for the North Stars.
The anniversary jerseys feature a return of the original number set from the inaugural 2000-01 season, the original wordmark highlighted in the shoulder patch and expanded use of the metallic gold striping.
Minnesota will begin the 2025-26 regular season on Oct. 9 against the St. Louis Blues. Its first home game will be against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Oct. 11.
