Dabo Swinney Says Clemson 'Beat Up Emotionally and Physically' amid 1-3 Start
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney says both he and his players are feeling the pressure of the program's worst season start in 21 years.
The Tigers lost 34-21 to Syracuse on Saturday, marking the first time Clemson has started a season 1-3 since before Swinney took over in 2004.
"We're beat up emotionally and physically," Swinney told reporters after the game (h/t ClemsonTigerNet. "But we'll rally, and we'll get back to work."

Swinney appeared visibly upset on the ESPN broadcast as time ticked down on Saturday's loss.
"I'm hurt. I'm human," Swinney said Saturday (h/t WACH FOX's Claire Foley). "I'm not a cyborg. This is my life, man. I've been here 23 years. I love this place. I give this place the very best I've got, every single day. There's never been a day that I haven't Clemson every ounce of everything I have. I'm hurt.
"I've invested my life here. When I don't get the job done, I'm responsible. And I feel the pain. It's not just my pain. I feel everybody's pain. But that comes with my job."
Clemson fell into an early 10-0 deficit and was never able to recover, especially after a pair of crucial turnovers late in the game.
After Adam Randall lost a fumble late in the third quarter, Syracuse defensive back Davien Kerr clinched the upset victory by picking off Cade Klubnik in the fourth.
Swinney signed a 10-year, $115 million extension with Clemson in 2022. The contract includes a $60 million buyout this season.
When asked about his job security earlier this week, Swinney cited his success in leading Clemson to two national championships and a third appearance in the national title game between 2017 and 2020.
With Clemson's hopes of making it back to the playoff the winter dwindling, however, Swinney's future with the Tigers will remain a topic of discussion as he and his team prepare for an Oct. 4 road game against Bill Belichick and North Carolina.
